I Am Useful

Bokeh of hearts in form of ball.

I read a post by Jason Feifer, Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneur Magazine yesterday, that triggered something in me I’ve been struggling with lately, especially as I’ve been hoping to launch my #Unkcufwithable brand and book: Self-promotion. I’ve always been a writer, I’ve always been in bands, I’ve always had my own business, and therefore, some sort of self-promotion has been a constant in my life. As I create new Facebook pages or start a new project, I often wonder if people get sick of me inviting them to new things. But Jason’s shared approach to self-promotion really helped me to look at things from a different perspective. He writes:

“Over the past year, though, I’ve been repeatedly struck by how gracefully entrepreneurs promote themselves. There’s no fuss. No apologies. No little dance. They instead worry about how to reach their audiences most directly, and how to be as useful to that audience as possible. The concept started to sink in: useful. I needed to think of my self-promotion as useful — not to me, but to the people I’m reaching.”

Yes, I want my entrepreneurial endeavors to succeed fully. Some have. Some haven’t but that doesn’t ever mean I’ll give up on working toward living the life of my dreams. I’ve been in bands that were not as successful or well known as I would have liked. I’ve written music I’ve poured my heart and soul into that didn’t really get off the ground. I’ve had a successful digital marketing business that ebbs and flows, but this new project, this book that I’ve written that I’ve poured my soul into in order to help others get to the same place I am…this one is probably one of the most important things of my life next to my career with Cold. And at the end of the day, I MUST promote the shit out of this because I must help contribute to helping people fall in love with themselves, not in a self-centered sort of way, but in a “self-love” kind of way. Because no matter what you think or how you feel, you can’t give away what you don’t have, no matter now hard you try.

So right now, I’m going to ask you to sign up for my Unkcufwithable newsletter, so I can give you love and encouragement once a week. I’m going to ask you to follow me on Instagram and Twitter, follow me on Facebook, and like my Unkcufwithable page. And visit my store because I’ve got some kick ass merchandise for great gift giving. I’m going to ask you to join the Cold Army on Facebook and be a part of the new record we’re releasing next year that is so beautiful that I can barely contain my excitement, and yes, sign up for the Cold newsletter so you can be the first to know all of our tour dates, because yes, we ARE touring the US and going overseas. (links are in bold, so just click them.)

It is my intention today and every day to help and encourage others to live IN the power that they have. It is my intention to be a positive force of nature in a time where it seems so many things are out of control. It is my intention to help you grow into loving, giving, beautiful beings, and I will do it unapologetically.

So, thank you for being here. And thank you for all your support. What is one thing you can do today to be useful to those in your life? How can you help transform your own thoughts to help create a better future for you and those around you? And how can I help?
